If you’re in the market for a crossover that can handle whatever life and the weather throws at it, you can’t go wrong with the 2017 Subaru Forester! With its standard all-wheel drive, extra roomy interior, plenty of ground clearance for off-road excursions or rough driving experiences. There are six trims for 2017 so if you’d like more power you can add a turbocharged engine.
The heart of the Forester remains the same, equipped with Subaru’s CVT, all-wheel drive, outstanding fuel economy, beautifully simple design features, tons of passenger and cargo room and those huge windows for excellent all-round visibility. Forester of course maintains its trademark all-weather capability, good handling, and abundant power.
Outside, the new Subaru Forester compact SUV for 2017 has some minor – but fresh - front and rear styling upgrades including an updating on the front bumper and hexagonal front grille that features a black inner bezel and Subaru’s signature C-shaped motif, also present on the rear LED taillights, accompanied by a redesign of the light features.
Premium-trim models now feature a body-color rear spoiler, and there are revised 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels with contrasting black and machine finishes.
With all-wheel drive standard and the most up-to-date high-tech safety features including back-up camera, camera-utilizing EyeSight pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and Adaptive cruise control, the Forester lacks for nothing for 2017.
Inside, you’ll find a redesigned steering wheel with improved cruise control, 6.2-inch touch-screen multimedia system with Pandora integration, Bluetooth streaming audio, iPod connectivity and audio controls, more sound reducing, thicker door glass, acoustic windshield, and new door seals. The open, roomy interior has plenty of room for adults in both front and rear rows; impressive fuel economy for an all-wheel-drive crossover; optional turbocharged engine provides spirited acceleration; above-average off-road ability and advanced safety features.
The Forester continues to impress in its simple approach to functionality; the elevated rear seating enhances thigh support and legroom and allows for better exterior views, complementing the sense of space with the large windows. The huge cargo hold yields 34.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 74.7 cubic feet with the rear seatbacks folded, this is best in class.
The 2017 Subaru Forester all-wheel drive crossover is offered in six trim levels—2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 2.5i Touring, 2.0XT Premium, and 2.0XT Touring, seating for five, power from a 2.5-liter flat-four engine or a 2.0-liter turbo-four. The base 2.5 offers a six-speed manual or a CVT, while the turbo model gets a standard CVT.
The Touring models offer an available Saddle Brown leather with contrasting stitching this year, the door panels and lid of the center console storage box are also finished in brown leather; keyless entry with push-button start, and a heated steering wheel. Standard features for most of the Forester trims are two-position memory seats, automatic climate control, and auto front windows, while a power liftgate is now optional on the 2.5i Premium model.
